RENAISSANCE’S forte is providing a bespoke service, making exact copies, or ageing chimneypieces from our exclusive range so they harmonise perfectly into the room. Our marble is directly sourced from Italy, and where possible, antique marble is used.

Renaissance has two London showrooms, our main branch is close to the City, and the other in Battersea, where you can view our extensive stock, and discuss your project with experienced staff.
In addition we offer an authentication service, due to the numerous copies and forgeries, many manufactured in the Far East. Also, we undertake confidential consultancy work for private and corporate clients, providing our opinion as to the age, date of specific chimneypieces, and on restoration carried out.
We also provide insurance valuations, record images, and advise on suitable replacements for listed buildings.
Our cleaning process predominantly uses non abrasive cleaning agents to dissolve and remove discoloured waxes and grime. However, where elements have suffered mechanical damage or the breakdown of the surface marble and consolidation is required, the restoration process is predominantly effected by hand using abrasives similar to those used for creating the chimney-piece originally.
Great care is taken to ensure that as much of the original integrity or history of the chimney-piece is retained, and thus wear and tear resulting from the use of fenders/fire tools etc is retained together with those minor abrasions and chips.
More substantial repairs are effected in the Georgian manner by the means of cutting in square blocks of matching marble and working these down to match the existing mouldings. More substantial structural repairs require the sourcing of matching marble and reconstructing elements to match. Sourcing such marble can be problematical in that many of the coloured marbles used to create Georgian chimney-pieces are now scarce, but we have extensive stocks of our own and are usually confident of locating supplies of even the rarest marbles from antiquity.
Where chimney-pieces require sections of marble recarved, this is effected by our sculptor working in conjunction with surviving elements using plaster moulds, profiles and scale drawings.
Although we don’t deal exclusively in fireplaces - we stock a wide selection of chandeliers, stone and ironware - fireplaces are without doubt our absolute passion. We can also supply and install fine quality wood flooring that sits perfectly with our range of antique fireplaces.
At any one time you’ll be able to view a selection of hundreds of antique English, French, Italian and Irish fireplaces in our studio and workshop as well as a number of unique pieces sourced and salvaged by Renaissance from around Europe. We never use inferior pieces from China.
We use materials such as Statuary White Marble, Carrara Stone, Bath, Portland, Caen or Limestone to your individual specification and we would be happy to advise you on any aspect of fireplace design, fireplace restoration or undertake an onsite assessment.
