Original French Louis XV Statuary Marble Fireplace Surround

An exceptional original French Louis XV fireplace surround in Statuary white marble, distinguished by a gracefully moulded serpentine shelf, decorative fish-scale frieze and sculpted clamshell centre tablet. The shaped jambs and flowing Rococo composition give the chimneypiece an elegant sense of movement, balanced by the clarity of the pale marble. With provenance from Avenue Foch in Paris, it is a particularly distinguished piece for a formal drawing room or richly considered period interior.
